This plate comes from the Lower Jurassic (Lias epsilon) of Holzmaden. It contains several different bones of the crocodile Steneosaurus spec. Interesting: The black areas show stomach content! The stone was broken onc, it measures about 22 x 11 x 1,5 cm. Holzmaden is a classic location, unfortunately nowadays there are no active quarries, so no new finds reach the market. Crocodiles are rarely found in Holzmaden. Remains of ichthyosaurs are comparatively more frequently.
In the past, such fossils were "scraped", today the preparation using modern sandblasting technology is much gentler, even the fine details of the fossils can be preserved. Do not miss this one!
