This slab with bones of Ichthyosaurus comes from the Lower Jurassic (Lias epsilon -
"Posidonienschiefer") from Holzmaden in Germany.
The stone contains a complete and beautifully articulated front paddle, the shoulder area with
humerus, various vertebrae and ribs.
The stone was broken and has been glued. It contains many interesting fossils in a small area.
The stone measures approximately 30 x 24 x 2.5 cm.
Finely preserved bones and prepared by using modern sandblasting technology!
Holzmaden is one of the classic sites for ichthyosaurs - unfortunately most of the quarries are
closed nowadays and no new finds reach the market.
