Fossils: Palaeoxyris (Shark Egg Case)
Age:  Pennsylvanian (Upper Carboniferous)
Location:  Illinois (Mazon Creek)

This is a good large example of a classic fossil from Mazon Creek.  Shark egg cases are not rare, but good quality and large ones are less common.  This is a textbook example, so do not miss out.

Only one side of the nodule. The nodule is unbroken, it measures about 10 x 8 cm. The egg is quite big, it measures about 8 cm in length.
