Products description
This vertebra from a large ichthyosaur originates from the Toarcian stage (upper part of the Early Jurassic) near Altdorf, close to Nuremberg.
The vertebra has a diameter of approximately 9 cm, suggesting a total body length of 5 to 6 meters. It is therefore likely a subadult specimen of the large-bodied *Temnodontosaurus*.
Such bones are found at the site within so-called "Laibsteine"—very hard concretions. Preparation was a complex process, involving the complete removal of the vertebra from the surrounding rock.
The stone had been fractured and was professionally bonded back together. The overall dimensions of the specimen are approximately 9 x 9 x 4 cm.
