Products description
These two vertebrae of a large ichthyosaur come from the Toarcian (Upper Jurassic) of Altdorf near Nuremberg in
Germany.
The vertebrae have a diameter of approximately 9 cm, suggesting a total length of 5 to 6 meters for the animal.
Therefore, it is likely a subadult specimen of the large Temnodontosaurus.
Bone like this is found locally in so-called Laibsteine – wich are very hard concretions. Preparation was quite complex,
requiring the vertebrae to be completely freed from the surrounding rock.
The stone was broken and professionally glued. The overall dimensions of the specimen are approximately 10 x 9 x 8 cm.
