This slab comes from the Lower Jurassic (Lias epsilon) of Holzmaden. It contains bones of the
Crocodile Steneosaurus spec.
The stone is unbroken, it contains one vertebra, several armor plates, various rib fragments
and two Belemnites.
The size of the exhibit is about 16 x 13 x 2 cm.
Holzmaden is a classic location, unfortunately nowadays there are no active quarries, so no new
finds reach the market.
Crocodiles are rarely found in Holzmaden. Remains of ichthyosaurs are comparatively more
frequently.
In the past, such fossils were "scraped", today the preparation using modern sandblasting
technology is much gentler, even the fine details of the fossils can be preserved.
Rare and well prepared piece!
