Huge Ichthyosaur shoulder blades

This attractive slab shows the two shoulder blades of a huge Ichthyosaur. It was found in the lower jurassic layers of the famous quarries of Holzmaden, Germany. The age of this fossil is about 180 mio. years.

This reptile must have been huge. The bones are still in their orignal matrix, nothing have been removed or replaced. All is like mother nature produced it.

The bones are nice three-dimensional. Because of the modern prepping (airabrading), nothing has been damaged!

The bones measure about 13 x 11 cm. The plaque measures about 43 x 36cm. It was broken once and have been repaired professionally. 

To get a better contrast the bones have been covered with  a thin layer of colourless laquer, this could be removed easily with Aceton.
