This attractive slab shows many bones of a huge Ichthyosaur. It was found in the lower jurassic layers of the famous quarries of Holzmaden, Germany. The age of this fossil is about 180 mio. years.
It contains many ribs and many upper and lower parts of vertebrae. This reptile must have been huge. The rips are finger-sized! The bones are still in their orignal matrix, nothing have been removed or replaced. All is like mother nature produced it.
The bones are nice three-dimensional. Because of the modern prepping (airabrading), nothing has been damaged!
The plaque measures about 66 x 51 cm. It was broken once and have been repaired professionally. A little part of one rib (about 2 cm) was missing and have been completed. All the rest is original!
To get a better contrast the bones have been covered with a thin layer of laquer, this could be removed easily with Aceton.
