Frog from El Salvador

Here we offer a very interesting slab containing a small (unidentified) frog and several fishes. This stone comes from the plio/pleistocene sediments of Rio Sisimico, El Salvador. Very unusual location!

The front side of the stone shows the frog and three fishes (one is unprepped).

The animal still is in the transition stage between tadpole and frog. It is perfectly preserved. In addition to the skeletonbones the skin is still there and one can even recognize the eyes as dark shades.

On the back side there is one more unprepped fish. One corner of the slab is broken. We did not glue it because inside the stone one can see three more fossils which could be removed. It seems the complete stone is full of fossils! Inside this sediment one can find fantastic insects and plants as well.

The frog measures about 22 mm. The original-matrix measures around 14 x 8 x 1 cm. The stone is very light (?Diatomit).

All is original, nothing was glued, lacquered, painted or reconstructed!
