Products description

This tooth of a Cynodont comes from layers of the upper Triassic (Bull Canyon Formation) of San Miguel County, New Mexico, USA.

The piece is completely preserved and unbroken. It measures about 2 mm. The typical saw edges are clearly visible on both sides.

The mouse-sized Cynodonts were early mammal-like reptiles. Towards the end of the Triassic period, the Cynodontier gradually disappears from the strata of finds, the exact derivation of mammals has not yet been clarified. Reptiles existed in the Triassic that looked very similar to mammals. However, the first "real" mammals only appeared in the lower Jurassic.

Teeth of Cynodonts are rarely offered for sale, they are extremely interesting fossils for the theory of evolution and should not be missing in any collection.
