Products description

This is a real fossil and not a cast!

Here we offer a complete reptile skeleton on matrix. This species is called Captorhinus magnus. It is one of the first reptiles that roamed the world.

The fossil was found in lower permian layers (Arroyo Formation) of "Richards Spur", Lawton, Oklahoma, USA.

The difference between Captorhinus aguti and C. magnus is that C. magnus is bigger and had single rowed teeth while C. aguti had double rowed teeth.

The bones can be found in a kind of "bonebed" where many bones are mixed into the stone. With a lot of patience and work these tiny bones can be removed from the stone and composited into a complete skeleton.

All the bones are cleaned and mounted onto this piece of matrix. The matrix was produced artificially, it is not original. The teeth and bones bones are real fossils. Only minor restaurations, all in all there is only about 10% restauration on the reptile.

The skull measures about 9 cm. The skeleton measures about  51  cm (measured from the snout to the tail along the backbones). The matrix measures about 45 x 27 cm.
