Crippled humerus of Neanderthal

Right humerus of Homo Neanderthalensis "Shanidar" Individual 1:

This upper arm bone was found by Ralph Solecki in 1955 in a cave at Shanidar in Iraq. This fossil is about 50,000 years old.

The age of the Neanderthal man was about 35 - 40 years. Because of a serious injury in early lifetime his arm crippled. Since the individual got relatively old this indicates the support of his group.

Highly interesting and rarely offered cast.

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. The handcraft makes every cast unique.
