This bird "Messelornis cristata" was found in the famous eocene layers of Messel near Darmstadt, Germany. The age of this fossil is about 45 mio. years.
The bird is a little disarticulated, the neck is up side down and so half of the skull is under the body. But there is a skull, one can clearly see the backskull, eye and jaws. Even some soft-parts are preserved (black areas).
Fossils from Messel are highly sought after and are rarely offered for sale.
