Products description

Skull of "Taung Child" Australopithecus africanus

This skull is the typus specimen of A. africanus, found in october 1924 by M. de Bryn, and decribed one year later by Raimond Dart, who recognized this childs skull as an own species and gave it its name. This skull, blasted in three parts comes from a limstone quarry near Taung in southern Africa. It was the first early Hominid found in Africa, the foundation for a new genus and species description. The first molar is begins to erupt which shows that this individual died as a child.

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. The handcraft makes every cast unique.
