Products description

Cast of the humerus bone of Homo Neanderthalensis, the Typus exemplary, that was found by limestone quarry workers in August 1856 in the Feldhof cave in the Neander valley near Duesseldorf, Germany. Johann Carl Fuhlrott, a local natural scientist, was the first to see that here a prehistoric Human type was found. This fossil marks the very beginning of the scientific paleoanthropology. The Neanderthal man lived 50 000 years ago and is a distinct branch of mankind. The original fossil is stored in the Rheinisch National Museum in Bonn,Germany and it celebrates a 150 years anniversary this year.

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. Because of the handcraft every cast is unique.
