Products description

Cast of the skull from Homo Floresiensis (LB1).The Original was found in Sept. 2003 by Thomas Sutikna in the Limestone cave "Liang Bua" on the Isle of Flores in Indonesia. The skull was found together with major parts of the legs, hands and feet and parts of the pelvis, this identifies it as female. It´s an adult species,so to see from the third molars and the fused joints at the long bones. The woman from Liang Bua was about one meter tall and had a brain from the size of a tennis ball (417 cubic centimeters). By the C14 method was found, that is is aged about 18000 years old, these little human beings lived together with H. Sapiens until the end of the last Ice age, after the Neandethals were already extinct. The Idea, it could have been simply a case of microcephalism, is meanwhile forgotten, the proportions of skull and brain show too clearly that it is in fact a very small hominid. Possibly it developed from late H. erectus to a dwarft form in the isolated isle location. H. Floresiensis was a talented tool maker and hunted dwarft elephants, their remains were found in the cave, too. In a wider public H. Floresiensis is also known as "Hobbit".

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. Because of the handcraft every cast is unique.
