Products description

Found 1960 in a cave at the Mount Katsika near Petralona in northern Greece, this skull was embedded into a stalagmite. The Cast was made before its preparation and shows still the red coloured sediment in the face and skullbase. Petralona 1 is a transitional form, it shows trademarks of the Neanderthals but still is a lot more primitive. The biggest similarity it shows with middlepleistocene finds like Arago XXI or Atapuerca, so its classified as H. Heidelbergensis. Though the eye brow region reminds of the classic Neanderthal the middle facial part is not as prominent as in those. The occipital region reminds more of H. erectus. This mighty skull is thought to be 3-400 000 years old.

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. Because of the handcraft every cast is unique.
