Products description

These are caudal vertebrae (tail vertebrae) of the early crocodile Diplocynodon. The fossil originates from the Eocene sediments
of the famous Messel Pit in Germany. These fossils are approximately 48 million years old.

As with all fossils from this site, this piece was prepared using the resin transfer method for long-term preservation.

Fossils from this site are rare and are seldom offered for sale because the site has been under strict protection for several
decades (UNESCO World Heritage Site). All fossils on the market were found in the late 1970s; no further searching has been
possible since then.

Messel fossils are highly sought-after collector's items. The site has been inaccessible for a long time, and thus finds from there
are becoming increasingly rare on the open market. This piece comes from an old collection.

The fossil measures approximately 8 cm. The slab is unbroken and measures approximately 11 x 3.5 x 0.5 cm.

Reptile specimens from the Messel Pit are rare and seldom offered for sale. We have only this one piece – don't miss this opportunity.

Honest piece without any manipulations!
