This fossil fish is the predator Eurypholis boissieri. The piece comes from the Upper Cretaceous layers
of Haqil-Byblos in Lebanon. The age of the exhibit is about 100 million years.
There is a small eaten fish in the stomach area. Very interesting and extremely rare is that the small
fish was not eaten head first as usual, but tail first. The predatory fish probably had a huge appetite
and the prey was small enough to be swallowed "upside down".
The Eurypholis measures about 16.5 cm. The visible part of the spine of the small eaten fish
measures about 2 cm.
The predatory fish is located nicely in the middle of the original matrix that was broken once.
The stone measures approximately 20 x 10 x 1 cm.
Great condition with beautiful color contrast and terrificaly prepared!
Visually attractive and rare museum piece for the advanced collector.
