Microbrachius dicki - Male individual with two (!) mating organs

This armored fish, Microbrachius dicki , is from the mid-Devonian of the Orkney Islands of Scotland. 
The age of this fossil is about 400 million years.

The animal is completely preserved, it measures about 2.5 cm. It is NOT a spli fossil, which means 
that the piece was extensively prepared. The matrix is ??unbroken and measures about 8 x 7.5 x 2 cm.

Very interesting: In this species, reproduction by copulation has been scientifically proven for the 
first time. 

The males had two copulatory organs - one on each side of the body. The piece offered here is a male 
individual. The two (!) mating organs are clearly visible.

Male individuals are extremely rare, there is only one male for every 100 females, this specimen is 
the only one that we have.
