This fish of the genus Tristichopterus was found in the middle Devonian layers of the Orkney
Islands of Scotland. These fishes are among the rarest fossils found in the Devonian Orkneys.
They are absolute rarities which are rarely offered commercially.
The piece comes from an old collection.
The animal is completely preserved, it measures about 23 cm. The stone was broken and have
been professionally glued, it measures about 31 x 18 x 3 cm.
It is NOT a split fossil, which means that the piece was extensively prepared.
Worth mentioning is the three-dimensional skull!
