This insect comes from the clay stone layers of the upper carbon (Namur B). It was found in the former brickyard pit in Vorhalle (Hagen)
in Germany.
The age of this fossil is about 318 million years.
The insect measures about 3 cm. The stone is unbroken, it measures about 5 x 4 cm.
The preservation of the fossils from this site is extraordinarily good, in some cases even skin and color remains are fossilized. For this reason,
the "Vorhaller Tonstein deposit" is also referred to as a conservatory deposit. The "Ziegeleigrube Vorhalle" became a site of international
importance by the discovery of fossil spiders and insects in a conservation that was more complete than it was known until then.
The location nowadays is a protected ground monument, the collection and digging for fossils is strictly forbidden there. The fossil offered here comes from an old collection.
