Here we offer a stone containing four individuals of "Spatangopsis costata".
The fossils were found in the lower cambrian layers (Mickwitzia sandstone) of Trolmen (near Lugnas), Väner-lake, Sweden.
It is not yet sure to which kind of animals the sandcorals (Psammocorallia) belong to. Probably they are an extinct type of Coelenterata. They represent the earliest form of hard-skeletons at a time when animals had not yet the ability to mineralize skeletons actively (see "Fossilien, Zeitschrift für Hobbypaläontologen", Heft 2/1997, page 79 ff.)
The size of the unbroken originalslab is about 10 x 7 x 3 cm. The fossils are preserved nicely and three-dimensional.
These interesting fossils are very hard to come by, extremely rare! A stone containing four animals certainly is something special!
