This beautiful specimen with ammonites of the genera Dactylioceras athleticum and Hildoceras bifrons comes from the lower Jura (Lias, under Toarcium) from Schlaifhausen near Forchheim in Germany. The age of this fossil is also around 189 million years.
This site has long been considered a classic site for these ammonites. Unfortunately it is now completely exploited, new finds are no longer possible and so this piece also comes from an old collection.
The stone measures approximately 40 x 16 x 9 cm. It is original and unbroken and weighs about 4 kilograms. Such large pieces are rarely available today.
