Products description

This skull of a female adult person of Homo habilis dates from the Olduvai Gorge of Tanzania. The lucky finder was Peter Nzube in the year 1968. The age of this fossil is about 1.8 million years. It is the oldest hominid from the Olduvai Gorge and - with the exception of OH 5 - the best preserved skull of this kind. When they found this skull - heavily fragmented and still surrounded by the limestone - its scientific value was hard to imagine. When the scientist Philip Tobias saw this fossil he said "so flat was only Twiggy". And so the name of the English Photo model remained as a nickname at this fossi. The find yielded a lot of new digestions about humanoids. The skull bones are thin and not as robust as those of australopithecines. The brain volume is slightly below 600 cubic centimeters - but this may be due to the slightly distorted shape of the fossil. The teeth of this skull show that this individual died as a young adult.

The cast is made of epoxy resin and hand-colored. The color of the reproduction may be different from those of the images slightly. Due to the handmade, each piece unique.
