Isolated Mixosaurus vertebra from the Lower Muschelkalk of Leibach - Absolute collector's rarity! For sale is an excellent and exceptionally rare piece of prehistoric history: An isolated vertebra of the marine reptile Mixosaurus, found in the classic Lower Muschelkalk of Leibach in Germany.
Mixosaurus was a nimble, dolphin-like ichthyosaur (fish lizard) that roamed the primeval seas during the Triassic period.
Special collector's note on rarity:While finds of other marine reptiles such as Nothosaurus (plesiosaur relatives) are regularly discovered in the Lower Muschelkalk and are represented in many collections, Mixosaurus belongs to the absolute exceptions. The presence of true ichthyosaurs in this stratum is extremely thin on the ground. Such a Mixosaurus vertebra is therefore many times rarer than comparable remains of Nothosaurus and represents a true specialty for connoisseurs of the Germanic Triassic fauna!
