Products description

Prime Permian Fossil Fish: Professionally Prepared Paramblypterus (20.5 cm) – Jeckenbach, Germany

Description:
For sale is an excellently preserved fossil of the prehistoric ray-finned fish Paramblypterus. This premium display piece originates from the famous Rotliegend layers of the well-known Jeckenbach locality (Saar-Nahe Basin, Germany).

The fish stands out due to its remarkable level of detail. The characteristic, glossy ganoid scales are clearly visible across the entire body surface and perfectly preserved in three dimensions. The fin structures and the cranial area are also of great interest to collectors and have been beautifully exposed.

Highlights of this collector's item:
  • Originality: No restorations, no artificial painting. A pure natural product.
  • Preparation: Professional work using chisels and air-abrasive techniques. The fish stands out plastically from the matrix.
  • Size: The fish has an impressive length of 20.5 cm. It is a fully grown and highly representative specimen.
  • Matrix: As is typical for this locality, the rock was broken along natural fissures. It has been professionally glued and measures approximately 30 x 14 x 4 cm.
  • Aesthetics: High-contrast preservation of the dark fossil, nicely centered on the light matrix. An absolute eye-catcher for any display cabinet.
  • Preservation & Preparation: The fish is complete and rich in detail. It was meticulously exposed in hours of painstaking work under a stereomicroscope (binocular). An honest piece—nothing added, nothing painted. Unusual: The fossil has not been lacquered and remains in its original, natural state.
Information on the Jeckenbach Locality:
  • Significance: Jeckenbach (Saar-Nahe Basin, Rhineland-Palatinate) is one of the world's most famous localities for Permian fossil fish.
  • Age: Permian, Lower Rotliegend (Meisenheim Formation), approximately 290 million years old. Long before the first dinosaurs.
  • Prehistoric Environment: A deep, tropical freshwater lake system. The oxygen-poor lake floor ensured excellent fossilization of the fish in complete skeletal articulation.
  • Material Characteristic: The typical shale matrix naturally tends to fracture. Glued slabs are the absolute standard for finds from Jeckenbach and do not represent a defect in quality.
  • Collector's Value: The locality has been closed for a long time. Excavations are strictly prohibited. This piece comes from a historic old collection and represents a valuable investment.
Take this opportunity to acquire this flawless and superbly prepared piece of Earth's history from Jeckenbach for your collection!
