Products description

Brittle Star Aspidura streichani - Ruedersdorf 1976

Here we offer a true rarity for connoisseurs of the Muschelkalk: A well-preserved brittle star of the species Aspidura streichani.
This fossil originates from the famous Heinitzbruch quarry in Ruedersdorf near Berlin and was collected back in 1976. Finds of this quality and documentation are rarely found on the market today.

The details at a glance:
  • Species: Aspidura streichani (Brittle star / Ophiuroid)
  • Horizon: Schaumkalk - G-Horizon, Lower Muschelkalk (Middle Triassic)
  • Location: Heinitzbruch, Ruedersdorf near Berlin, Germany
  • Year of discovery: 1976 (Historic old collection)
  • Fossil size: approx. 1.5 cm – very nice details of the central disc and arm bases.
  • Matrix: Unbroken rock slab, approx. 5 x 4 x 1 cm.
  • Condition: Completely natural, stable, and authentic in a plastic collector's box.
Significance of the locality:
The Heinitzbruch in Ruedersdorf is one of the most important fossil localities in Germany. The G-Horizon of the Schaumkalk is famous for its brittle stars, but due to ongoing quarrying and changing access conditions, excellent specimens like this one—which is almost 50 years old—are highly sought-after collector's items.
This fossil is a perfect reference specimen for the fauna of the Muschelkalk Sea and a valuable addition to any sophisticated fossil collection.
