Rarity: Epophyoceras longicella - Rare Ammonite from the ArietenkalkWe are offering an exceptional collector's item from the classic Southern German Lias alpha: A large
Epophyoceras longicella ammonite on its original matrix.
Details at a Glance:- Species: Epophyoceras longicella (Rare!)
- Age: Lower Jurassic, Lias alpha, Arietenkalk (approx. 196 million years)
- Locality: Bettringen near Schwaebisch Gmuend, Germany
- Ammonite Diameter: approx. 16.5 cm
- Condition: Natural, stable, and unbroken
Why this piece is rare:- Rare Genus: Compared to common Arietites, Epophyoceras is a much rarer representative of the Lower Jurassic. A specimen of this impressive size (16.5 cm) is an absolute exception.
- Historical Locality: This ammonite was found in Bettringen, Germany. Since there are no active quarries in this area today and finds were mostly limited to temporary construction sites (old finds), fresh material has virtually disappeared from the market.
- Perfect Presentation: The matrix is unbroken (27 x 24 x 7 cm). This is very rare for finds of this size, as the Arietenkalk limestone tends to shatter easily. A special highlight is the natural stand (base), which allows the fossil to be displayed securely without the need for an external holder.
This fossil represents the characteristic preservation of the Arietenkalk in museum quality. It is not only a scientific reference piece but also an exquisite decorative object for high-end collections.
A true investment piece from a classic, extinct locality!
