This fossil of a mackerel (Scombridae) comes from the Oligocene (Rupelton) of Wiesloch-Frauenweiler
in Germany. This specimen is approximately 32 million years old.
Fossils from this site were typically prepared using the "plastic transfer method" to preserve them
permanently (similar to fossils from the Messel Pit). This is also the case with this specimen.
The site is no longer accessible – it is protected, and no new finds will be brought onto the market.
The fish is in excellent condition and displays many interesting details, such as the dentition.
It measures approximately 24 cm. The slab is unbroken and measures approximately 30 x 16.5 x 0.8 cm.
A genuine and rarely offered specimen from an inaccessible site.
