This starfish, Furcaster palaeozoicus, comes from the Lower Devonian region of Bundenbach
in the Hunsrueck region in Germany.
This fossil is approximately 400 million years old.
The animal is in an umbrella position. The term "umbrella position" is not a scientific
term for starfish, but is used in connection with locomotion, when a starfish shortens
its muscles on its front arm and thus slowly pulls itself forward like an umbrella,
clinging to solid surfaces with its feet.
The fossil measures approximately 17 cm (greatest measurable distance). The slab is
unbroken, measuring approximately 23.5 x 17.5 cm.
The specimen shows nice details and is very well prepared.
This classic paleontological site can unfortunately be considered extinct today.
A valuable specimen without any manipulations.
