This fossilized starfish, Riedaster reicheli (RĂ–PER, 1999), comes from the famous German Plattenkalk
of Ried near Kehlheim.
It originates from the Upper Jurassic layers—more precisely, the Tithonian, the White Jurassic Group,
the Painten Formation, and the upper Hienheim Subformation. This fossil is approximately 151 million
years old.
The echinoderm lies beautifully on the matrix with its arms outstretched. It was painstakingly
prepped using a binocular microscope and modern tools. The animal measures approximately 10.5 cm
(at its greatest measurable distance). The stone is original and unbroken, measuring approximately
19 x 10.5 x 2 cm.
Such fossils are absolute rarities — only a few dozen starfish are known from these layers — making
them even rarer than, for example, pterosaur fossils.
The site is now completely exploited - further discoveries are no longer possible.
- Extremely rare! Only a few dozen specimens are known
- Site is extinct
- Completely preserved animal with beautifully outstretched arms
- Very good preservation and elaborate preparation
- Attractively positioned animal in the center of the matrix
- Unbroken stone
- Honest piece - No manipulation!
- Relatively inexpensive!
We only have this one specimen - don't miss the opportunity
