This fossilized squid, Loligosepia aalensis, comes from the Lower Jurassic (Lias epsilon, Toarcian)
of Dormettingen near Dotternhausen in Germany.
This fossil is approximately 180 million years old.
Interesting: The specimen shows nice detals and has significant soft tissue preservation – for example
the well-preserved ink sac of this rare Teuthidae is clearly visible.
The animal measures approximately 14 cm. It was thinly coated with a colorless varnish for preservation,
which can be easily removed with acetone if desired. The stone was broken (not through the fossil),
it measures approximately 22 x 8.5 x 2 cm.
A rarely offered specimen of good quality.
