This fish fossil comes from the Oligocene (Rupelton) of Wiesloch-Frauenweiler in Germany. This piece is approximately 32 million years old. Fossils from this site were usually prepared using the "plastic transfer method" (similar to fossils from the Messel Pit). Not so with this exhibit. Unusual: The fossil is still in the original stone it is solid and stable. The site is no longer accessible - it is protected, and no new finds will be brought onto the market. Many collectors are surely familiar with the small plastic-replaced herring and pipefish from this site. They were once offered in large quantities. A fish as large (and as yet unidentified) and in the original rock as the one offered here is an absolute rarity! The fish is completely preserved and measures approximately 13 cm. The stone was once broken and measures approximately 28.5 x 18 x 2 cm. Don't miss out - we only have this one piece! SOLD
