Here we are offering for sale a fossil from a very unusual site. It is a stone with several crystallized plant fossils. The stone dates back to the Eocene period (the so-called Messel Formation) and is therefore approximately 50 million years old. It was found in the former lignite open-cast mine "Grube Prinz von Hessen." in Germany. The mine was operated between 1909 and 1924. After mining ceased, the pit quickly filled with water, and today it is a popular swimming lake. The lake is located just 3 km from the world-famous Messel Pit fossil site. The stone is unbroken and measures approximately 13 x 15 x 10 cm. It contains several crystallized plant/wood fossils. The small sparkling crystals glitter a thousandfold in the sunlight, which unfortunately isn't captured in the photos. An interesting and rarely offered piece. All original – no tampering whatsoever. Don't miss this rare opportunity; the site has been inaccessible for over 100 years!
