This fossilized fish Elonichthys, comes from the Permian (Schwarzpelit Bank) of Morsbacherhof in the Eifel region in Germany. The animal is preserved with great detail and displays an attractive contrast between the white fossil substance and the greenish-brown sediment. Such white fossils formed in localized areas when the fossil-bearing layers were heated by scorching lava from volcanic eruptions. These fossils are called "fried" fossils. The animal is completely preserved and measures approximately 4.5 cm. The stone is unbroken, measuring about 7.5 x 5 x 0.7 cm. The area where it was found has been under strict protection since 1986, and no new finds from there are coming onto the market. The piece offered here comes from an old collection. No manipulations!
