This is a fossil bird bone from the Eocene sediments of the world-famous Messel Pit in Germany Messel fossils are highly sought-after collector's items. The site has been inaccessible for many years. The Messel Pit is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and no new finds have come onto the market for decades. This is an old find from over five decades ago. As is common with Messel fossils, this exhibit was prepared using the so-called resin transfer method. This is the only way to permanently preserve such fossils. The bone measures approximately 6.2 cm. The matrix is unbroken and measures approximately 8 x 3 x 1 cm. A bargain! SOLD
