The site has been inaccessible for decades. The Messel Pit is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and no new finds have come onto the market. This is an old find from over five decades ago. According to the sticker on the back, the piece was found on October the 3rd in 1970. As is common with Messel fossils, this exhibit was prepared using the so-called resin transfer method.
