This is the fossil wing of a pterosaur. The piece comes from the famous limestones of Eichstaett near
Solnhofen in Upper Bavaria, Germany.
The sediments from Eichstaett date from the Upper Jurassic (Malmian) and are approximately 140 million
years old.
Fossils of reptiles from the Solnhofen area are extremely rare, and are highly sought after by museums
and collectors.
The piece offered here comes from an old collection; it was already illustrated in the 1960s in Jürgen
Schmitt's 1972 treatise "Fossilfunde aus dem Solnhofener Schiefer" (see pictures).
The wing measures approximately 15.5 cm.
Unusual: Both sides of the fossil "lying and hanging slab" are offered here, so you receive two stones.
Interesting: Even the flight membrane is preserved and clearly visible!
Both stones are unbroken!
A genuine piece – no tampering whatsoever!
