This is the skull of an early bird - more precisely the pseudotoothed bird Odontopteryx gigas.
The fossil comes from the famous phosphate mine deposits around Kouribga in Morocco. The age of this
fossil is around 80 to 66 million years (formation: Upper Cretaceous).
The skull measures a remarkable 41 cm in length. The preparation is excellent, it has been completely
freed from the surrounding rock - only a small "base" matrix is still present on which the exhibit
now sits as a natural stand. The fossil was broken several times and was professionally glued, no
other manipulations!
It is not a composite (meaning it was not put together from several individuals, as is unfortunately
often done by Moroccan sellers).
We were able to acquire this fossil from an old collection and are pleased to be able to offer you
a rare and attractive museum piece.
Something like this will definitely not come again - so don't miss it!
