This fossilized fish Elonichthys comes from the Permian (Schwarzpelit Bank) of Hoferhof Niedermoschel
(Pfalz region) in Germany.
The animal is preserved in great detail and shows an attractive contrast between the white fossil
substance and the greenish-brown sediment. Such white fossils were formed in limited areas when the
fossil-bearing layers were heated by hot lava caused by vulcanic eruptions. This is referred to as
fried?? fossils
The animal is complete, it measures approximately 3.7 cm.
The plate also contains some coprolites at the front- and backside.
The stone was broken once, it measures approximately 13 x 10 x 1 cm.
The discovery area has been under strict protection since 1986, and no new finds from there come onto
the market. This piece comes from an old collection.
