Elonichthys, permian German fishfossil

This fossil fish Elonichthys comes from the Permian layers (Rotliegendes-Schwarzpelit Bank) of 
Niedermoschel, Hoferhof - Eifel region of Germany.

The animal is preserved in great detail and shows an attractive contrast between the white fossil 
substance and the greenish-brown sediment.
Such white fossils were formed in limited areas when the fossil-bearing layers were heated by hot 
lava caused by vulcanic eruptions. This is referred to as fried?? fossils.

The fish has been preserved completely, it measures about 4.5 cm. The matrix is unbroken and has 
a size of approximately 14 x 10 x 2.5 cm.
The stone contains other white fossils (coprolites) on the front and back.

The discovery area has been under strict protection since 1986, no new fossils come onto the market,
the piece offered here comes from an old collection.
