This "spiked shark" Diplacanthus spec. comes from the Orkneyislands of Scotland.

Diplacanthus is an extinct fish belonging to the Acanthodians. These fishes had a toothless mouth and were probably eating algae at the bottom, of the sea.

The fossil dates back to the devonian age - it is about 350 million years old.

This specimen is exceptionally well preserved, it beatifully shows the nubby skin structure and the typical fin spines.

The fish measures about 13 cm in length. The stone is original and unbroken, it measures about 15 x 13,5 cm.

In this perfect condition these fishes are rarely offered for sale - don't miss this opportunity!
