Stromatolites colony devonian age

These fossil stromatolites originate from the middle Devonian (Givetium) and are thus about 385 million years old.

The colony was found on the Orkney Islands of Scotland - Yasnaby Sandstone Group.

The stone is unbroken, compact and stable. It measures about 19 x 15 x 12 cm.

The preparation of this fossil was quite complex. Usually such pieces are sawn and polished, here we have uncovered the Stromatholites three-dimensionally. The cylindrical structure of these creatures is thus beautifully recognizable.

Unusual and rarely offered fossil without any manipulations!
