Giant Millipede - Arthropleura

This is a segment (Pleure) of the giant millipede Arthropleura. These strange animals reached a length of up to 2.5 meters.

The fossil originates from the Karbon (Westfal D, Flöz Zweibänke) from the Piesberg near Osnabrück. It is about 308 million years old.

The preservation of this fossil is remarkable, the reddish body carapace is preserved and under the binocular or a strong magnifying glass a neat fine structure can be seen. Interesting!

The stones also contains some plant fossils.
