Bird from Messel pit

This unidentified fossil of a bird was found in the world famous eocene layers of Messel pit in Germany.

The age of this fossil is about 47 mio. years.

The bird measures about 6,5 cm x 5 cm. The unboken matrix measures about 9 cm x 7,5 cm.

Unfortunately the skull is missing, but most of the rest of the animal is preserved. And even the skin is still visible.
