This fossil bay leaf comes from the Eocene deposits of the world-famous Messel Pit in Germany Messel fossils are highly sought-after collector's items. The site has been inaccessible for many years. This find comes from an old collection and was discovered in the 1970s. Fossil leaves from the Messel Pit are rare, only a few of these wafer-thin specimens have been prepared! As is common with Messel fossils, this exhibit was processed using the so-called resin transfer method. This is the only way to permanently preserve such fossils. The Messel Pit is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and no new finds have come onto the market for decades. The leaf is complete, including the stalk, and measures approximately 10 cm. The plate is unbroken and measures approximately 14 x 10 x 1 cm. Honest and very detailed specimen! SOLD
