Australopithecus aethiopicus

Product no.: KH 13

This 2,5 Mio years old fossil skull was found on the 29th of august in 1985 by Alan C. Walker on the west side of the Lake Turkana in Kenia. The "Black skull" has got its name as its dyed black by mangan minerals. Its a good example for the variations in hominid evolution. He´s an early kind of the successful group of Australopithecines that expanded geographically wide and survived for a long time before they finally became extinct. These robust Australopithecines had a number of characteristic adaptations in their grinding aparatus, that helped them to eat bigger amounts of minor foods, like strong jaws, giant molars and huge sagittal bones.

This cast is handcoloured and made of Epoxi. The colours may be a little differend than shown on the pictures. Because of the handcraft every cast is unique.
