Steneosaur jaw

Product no.: STKD 2

This jaw of Steneosaurus bollensis comes from the Lower Jurassic (Lias, lower toarcium) strata of Holzmaden in Germany.
This fossil is approximately 180 million years old.

Fossils of this crocodile-like reptile are rare finds compared to those of ichthyosaurs that appear in the
same layers.

The jaw was prepared using modern sandblasting techniques. It measures approximately 29 cm in length.
The visible change of teeth is interesting in this specimen. The broken teeth have repeatedly grown back.
In some of the alveoli, the small emerging teeth are clearly visible.

The plate was broken once and measures approximately 37 x 23 x 3 cm.

An impressive and rarely offered specimen!
