Product no.: FRGM 2
Here we are offering for sale a partial frog skeleton from the Eocene layers of the Messel Pit in Germany. Messel fossils are highly sought-after collectibles. The site is world-famous and has been inaccessible for many years. The Messel Pit is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and new finds have not come onto the market for decades. This piece comes from an old collection, it was discovered in the 1970s. As is common with Messel fossils, this exhibit was prepared using the so-called resin transfer method. This is the only way to preserve such fossils permanently. The animals bones are wonderfully preserved, they were carefully prepared. For example, teeth are clearly visible, the small hand bones, and even soft tissue is preserved as a black shadow of skin. The fossil measures approximately 5.5 cm, and the slab is unbroken and measures approximately 12 x 11 x 1 cm. This is a truly exceptional rarity - to our knowledge, no other frog fossil from the Messel Pit is currently available for sale anywhere else. SOLD
